Inaugural Black in Geoscience Week

Greetings from the Black in Geoscience collective. 

We are a group of Black Geoscientists organising and coordinating an online event to engage all Black Geoscientists and our supporters. This event is called "Black in Geoscience Week" scheduled for 6-12th September 2020. In order to reach the maximum number of Black Geoscientists, most of the activities will occur on major social media platforms including:

• LinkedIn
• Instagram 

Purpose

Our goal is to promote representation, celebrate and amplify the incredible work of Black People in Geosciences at all stages of their careers. We encourage participation from Geoscience administrators, Faculty, professional, entrepreneurs, students and citizen scientists. 

Overview of events

Throughout the Black in Geoscience Week activities, we will 

1. Highlight professional Black geoscience organizations or societies like the Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists (ASEG) to amplify your work in promoting Black Geoscientists and our discipline. 
2. Promote individual Black Geoscientists from all continents to share their science, and interests to create and grow their network 
3. Strive to showcase the breath of opportunities that exist in Geosciences to encourage and retain students and rising scientists to consider the geosciences

Outcome 

We are writing to you today to invite you to join us in support of Black in geoscience, to provide a global and inclusive platform for Black Geoscientists where they can safely share their work, experiences, connect with other Black Geoscientists and allies, and/or participate in panel discussions on wider aspects of diversity in the Geoscience community.

Our efforts to promote Black Geoscientists around the world on #BlackinGeoscienceWeek would go even further with the additional participation of Black Geoscience members from ASEG.
